Royal Caribbean Cruises is one of the world's largest cruise companies, operating the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brands, with 26 modern ships and a passenger capacity of approximately 53,000.
The company will introduce 2 more ships by the end of 2004, when it will have a total passenger capacity of approximately 60,300. The ships operate worldwide with a selection of itineraries that call on approximately 200 destinations.
Founded in 1969 by three Norwegian Shipping Companies, Royal Caribbean International offer an exciting and dynamic cruise experience.
The first ship, Song of Norway, was launched in 1970 specifically built for "warm water" cruising rather than point-to-point transport. This ship featured the unique "Viking Crown Lounge" – A top of the ship observation lounge, which was to become the hallmark of every Royal Caribbean ship.
After three more ships being brought on line, 1988 signaled the growth of Royal Caribbean when the ground breaking 73,000 ton Sovereign of the Seas arrived shortly after a merger with Admiral Cruises.
The 2,300 guest Sovereign of the Seas was twice as large as its predecessors, Song of America and Sun Viking. Guests were dazzled by a five-deck atrium called the Centrum, which contained glass elevators, lush foliage, sweeping staircases and fountains in marble pools - the first time such a huge atrium had been constructed in a passenger ship.
After two more "Sovereign" style ships, Royal Caribbean have since embarked on three more series of ships – Vision, Radiance and Voyager.
Each series of ships reflect a very different style and size. Among Royal Caribbean’s fleet of 17 super liners, some of their unique concepts include ice skating rinks, rock climbing walls and self-leveling pool tables.
